PITTSBURGH —– Guests visiting The Block Northway this Holiday Season will be treated to a sweet display. Nearly 90 gingerbread houses have been created by individuals, families, students, Girl Scout troops and various organizations. The sugary exhibit will be in the South Corridor Lower Level between DSW and Lands’ End from now through January 3, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day and FREE to the public.
“We invite guests to visit The Block Northway where they can return to community and winter holiday traditions,” said Jamie Pavlot, Director of Experience. “Come experience this Gingerbread fairy-tale display, custom created and inspired by participants who are excited to celebrate the Magic of the Season”.
Part of the fun is seeing the various ways that candy is used to decorate the houses: gum drops, pin wheel candies, jellybeans, gummies, candy canes, M&M’s, Necco Wafers, Christmas quins, mini beads and, of course, frosting! This year’s gingerbread display includes several interesting and quirky titles such as: Happy Holidays from Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, Princess Kitty Castle, Go Dog Go, Pokemon – Museum, Shopkins, Candyland, A Visit to France and many more.
This year Pam Forcht, creator of the “Happy Holidays from Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood”, has partnered with North Hills Community Outreach to raffle off her Gingerbread house with proceeds to benefit seniors. Visit https://www.nhco.org/ginger to make a donation and enter the raffle. Winner will be chosen December 15th at 3 p.m.
To add to the festivities throughout the holidays there will be sounds of the season concerts scheduled throughout the month of December on the upper level.
